iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
January 5, 1994
Mr. Joe Dudash
Environmental Protection Specialist •,'~
Division of Minerals and Geology `~ "
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 ~ - --
Denver, Colorado 80203 -
RE: Adequacy Response for Permit~Renewal -New Elk Mine, Permit C-81-012
Dear Mr. Dudash:
On behalf of Basin Resources, Inc., we hereby submit the following information in response
to your letter dated November 5, 1993 for the above referenced permit renewal. This
response addresses the comments concerning only hydrology from that letter. Additional
responses concerning the remaining questions from the 1992 Mid Term Review, 1992
Annual Hydrology Report Review, and letters from the Colorado Division of Wildlife and
Colorado Natural Heritage Program are also included in this package.
November 5, 1993 Adequacv Comments
B. Hydrology
1. The stormwater plan for the New Elk Mine is currently being prepared for
your review and approval.
2. The water monitoring data has confirmed the predictions of the New Elk PHC
and CHIS. Additional information concerning the update of these sections of the permit
document will be submitted under separate cover at a later date.
3. The Permit Document does not currently contain a description of the sump
discharge into D-16 at the industrial building. The sump is located in the northwest corner
of the industrial building in the lower level and drains groundwater seepage from the lower
level of the building. Pumping rate is extremely variable depending on the amount and
pattern of moisture received in the area which would cause seepage. The pump is on a float
activated switch and is rated at approximately 5 to 10 gallons per minute when it pumps.
The water is pumped to ditch D-16 which reports to Pond 007.
4. The results of the updated water users' survey are attached for your review
and approval. Revised pages TOC iv, 2.04-25, 25a thru 25g and Exhibit 11 are attached for
inclusion into the Permit Document.
5990 Greenwood Plaza Blvd. Suite 250 Englewood, CO 80111
(303) 850-0930 Fax (303) 721-9298
