boundary was previously mined, reclaimed, and released. Therefore, mining has taken place
right up to the eastern permit boundary (see Current Conditions, Exhibit C-1) and the area is
currently being backfilled for reclamation. Along the proposed southern amended permit
boundary, mining has taken place under the existing Kauffinan Pit permit (M-78-327). South of
the proposed permit boundary, backfilling of the pit is currently taking place for reclamation
under the Kauffinan Pit permit and will continue to include the reclaimed southern azea of the
proposed Wagner/Kauffman Pit #3 permit area.
Mine Phasing
The eastern most portion of the proposed amended permit azea, owned by Flying W Ranch
Loveland, LLC, will remain Phase I of the operation under the proposed amendment. The
mining area of Phase I, including approximately 41 acres, has already been mined and is
currently being backfilled. This area will be seeded as backfilling operations are completed.
Phase II of the original mining permit included approximately 74 acres west of the Fly W Ranch
property (Phase I) and east of the Boyd Lake Outlet Ditch. The amended mining area of Phase II
will also include approximately 62 acres south of the original permit azea and north of the Big
Thompson River. The 62 acres is currently part of the permitted Kauffinan Pit extraction
operation (M-78-327). The 136 acres of Phase II (the original 74 acres and the amended 62
acres) are currently being mined from the southeast to the northwest. Topsoil and overburden
from Phase II will continued to be stockpiled within the pit and used for backfilling of Phase I
and reclamation of Phase II. With the amended mining azea, Phase II is expected to take
approximately 5 to 6 more yeazs to complete.
The western most portion of the original permit azea, west of the Boyd Lake Outlet Ditch, will
remain Phase III of the mining operation. The Phase III mining azea consists of approximately
35 acres and has yet to be mined. Topsoil and overburden material from this phase will be
placed in backfill azeas of Phase II and used for Phase III reclamation. It is expected to take 4 to
5 yeazs to complete the mining in this phase, progressing from west to east.
Mining Methods
The sand and gravel deposit will continue to be dry mined. Trenches and pumps will be used to
dewater the deposit within each mining azea prior to mining below the water table. Dewatering
trenches will be excavated around the perimeter of each mining area prior to mining and pumps
will be used to remove the water that drains from the deposit and surrounding alluvium into the
trench. If necessary, water from the trenches will be circulated through a settling basin to meet
applicable Colorado Discharge Permit System requirements prior to it being dischazged to the
Big Thompson River.
The aggregate material will be recovered using equipment and facilities typical for sand and
gravel mining operations. The resource will continue to be hauled off-site and processed on the
remaining permitted property of the Kauffinan Pit (M-78-327), which is also held and operated
by the applicant. The equipment used for mining operations may include, but aze not limited to,
dozers, loaders, scrapers, excavators, and compactors.
Jake Kauffman and Son, lnc. -Wagner/Kauffman R't
OMG !!2 Permit Amendment
Page 5
