•
Mr. Harty Ranney
December 1, 1995
Page 2
C~
8. The statement that trace metals in the surface water improve downstream is supported in the AHR
documents when comparing mean values of aluminum, iron and manganese at stations S-1 (upstream) and
S-3 (downstream). Over the period of record, mean values are slightly higher upstream of the mine opera-
tion. This statement has been added to revised Page 2.04-18b.
9. Kaiser has written the last paragraph on Page 2.04-34 to indicate that "reference areas for the portion of
the mined area which will be reclaimed to rangeland and irrigated pasture will receive the same
management as the reclaimed areas." If Kaiser wishes to graze the area before the last two years of the
liability period, a specific request will be submitted to the Division for approval. Page 2.04-34 has been
modified to indicate this approval.
10. Exhibit 5, page 3 describes the techniques used during the 1990 study. Any further vegetation
investigations would be conducted using techniques approved by the Division. It is Kaiser's currently
standard practice to utilize a Division approved ocular sighting device which is mounted on a tripod with
a leveling apparatus. Use of this tool will assure objectivity of any future sampling.
11. The hydrologic monitoring schedule has been added to the permit document as Table SA.
12. Stakes have been installed in each of the sediment ponds to determine sediment levels.
13. Page numbers have been added to Tables it and 12 and the page number on Table 13 has been corrected
(see attached revised pages). Figure 5 on page 2.06-3 has been deleted from the permit document.
14. Information in the Appendices has been reviewed. The information in Appendix 7 concerning ponds and
ditches is in the process of being revised and will be submitted under separate cover at a later date.
Bonding Summary. A rider listing the new corporate name will be submitted under separate cover at a later
date.
Should you have questions or need additional information concerning this request, please do not hesitate to
contact Mr. Mike Keegan or Ict me know.
Sincerely,
~~ Q~ ~
Jerry H. Koblitz
Project Manager
Attachments
cc Mike Keegan -Kaiser Eagle Mountain
