moisture, and fine-textured material (for growth medium). Sediment catchment structures will remain.
Constructing earthen vehicle barriers will be included in the grading tasks.
After grading, the compacted areas to be revegetated will be ripped. This includes the 2.17-acre access road, and
about 2 more acres of the level portions of the dump pad.
The 350 cubic yards of topsoil will be spread on the nearby west end of the pad in a 4-inch deep layer, as you
described.
The area requiring revegetation includes the 2.17-acre access road and an estimated 4.17-acre azea contained in the
7.71-acre polygon (estimated area of the green-stippling on the new map). The seed mix was revised, and seed will
be applied by broadcasting and dragging from an ATV. No fertilizer or mulch will be applied, though noxious
weed control will be carried out.
Reclamation equipment currently being considered for these tasks includes a small to medium dozer with ripper, a
small wheeled loader or front-end loader, and possibly a medium excavator (withjack hammer).
These items will be calculated in greater detail and forwarded to the operator soon. At this time, if you notice any
errors or omissions in the tasks noted above, or have better ideas about the optimal equipment to use for the
reclamation, please provide it to this office.
Please be reminded that the reclamation costs that will be calculated soon will be based on the quantities of
earthwork and revegetation, for example, as presented in the recent technical revision and the new reclamation map.
If, upon reactivating the site, the quantities involved in the various reclamation tasks increase, the bond must be
recalculated.
I look forward to your reply. Thanks again for the high quality materials submitted in this process of updating the
permit file. You may reach me at the Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango,
CO 81301; telephone 970-247-5193.
Sincerely,
~~ C~
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Ec: Harry Posey, DMG
Cc: Ron F.
