~~
•
\MOUNTAIN COAL
COMPANVL.L.c.
A Subsidiary of Amh Wesmm Resources, LLC
West Elk Mine
P O Boz 591
5174 Highway 133
Somerset, CO 81434
(970)929-5015
Fax (970) 929-5595
Area. This bond also includes the cost of installing a pond at Lone Pine Gulch (TR 81) that was never
built. MCC is requesting a bond release in the amount of $45,937.18, which is 60 percent of the
current bond amount.
Reclamation in this area began in 1996 with the reclaiming of a 1.0 acre Waste Development Refuse
Pile. The pile has four feet of cover and topsoil and will permanently remain in its current location. In
Apri12002 reclamation on the rest of the Lone Pine Gulch area began after all the structures were
removed. Approximately 2.0 acres were reclaimed along the pipeline and powerline corridor, 0.5 acres
at the topsoil borrow area, and another 2.0 acres at the portal area. Seeding, fertilizing, mulching, and
the installation of aspen blankets began on May 17, 2002 and was completed on May 24, 2002.
Greystone Environmental Consultants, Inc. conducted an independent assessment of the reclamation
activities in Lone Pine Gulch and found that the vegetative cover was noticeably robust and diverse.
At the time of the assessment, it was estimated that total vegetative cover was about 19 percent for the
entire reclaimed portal azea. Greystone also found that, due to the placement of erosion control
blankets on the steepest portions of the site, the potential erosion problems had been controlled.
Attached is a summary of the findings of the Greystone Environmental Consultants assessment.
If you have any questions regarding this notification of request for Phase I Bond Release, please
contact me at 970-929-2232 or Henry Bazbe at 970-929-2238.
Sincerely,
~~k~ p~,A ~/~C~~
Kelly 0' ourke
Environmental Intem
Cc: H.
