n
sss
RIO GRANDE COUNTY ROAD DEPT.
P.O. BOX 46 MONTE VISTA, CO 81144 852-4781
;•
o~t^FIVED
DEC 2 9 1995
December 21, 1995
~7
374 GRAVEL °IT td-~.8-020
Division o; tviinerals & Geology
1, 6.4.3(f) There is a small irrigation ditch paralling
Rio Grande Lateral ~fl just inside the pit fence. It
should not be affected by the mining operation. It is
not known if there are any wells that would be affected.
2. 6.4.3(g) Rio Grande County does own the fencing and the
higho7ay along the south side of the pit area.
3, 6.4.4(b) Earthmoving
The equipment used in excavating the material in the 374
pit has been a front end loader. It was used to feed the
crusher plant by a private contractor.
4, 6.4.4(c) There are no water diversions at the nit. The
ground water shows un in the pit when the canals are turned
on in the summer. In the fall and winter, the nits dry up.
There are two small ponds at the nit caused by the crusher
operator digging to deep. There is not any material excavated
while there is water in the nit.
5. 5.4.4(e) The direction of mining operation for the nit is
from west to east. The small pit towards the east side
which was used by the Town of Del ?Norte was mined from
north to south.
6. 6.4.4(f)(i) It is limited to 10 feet.
7. 6.4.4(f)(ii) The material immediately beneath the mined
area is sand and gravel.
8. 3.1.9. Tonsoiling
At the present, there has been very little topsoil stripped.
The area that has already been mined has a very thin layer
of topsoil which most has been incorporated in the crush-
ing operation. Rio Grande County has hauled topsoil to
the pit to stockpile and add an additional amount to the
crushed material. The 374 pit is realitively flat so I
would assume that this area was leveled at some time and
most of the topsoil has been moved to the easterly Hart
of the pit area. This indication seems to show up in
the smaller pit on the east side of the property. The
stockpiles that are there seem to be hardly affected by
water or wind erosion. They revegatate with weeds and
there is very little rain fall to cause water erosion.
v
;>
:~:
r
