<br />Trapper Mining Inc Proposes to Retain Twenty-Five Ponds for use as Livestock and Wildlife Water
<br />Sources
<br />Dear Sir or Madam:
<br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116,
<br />Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 18, 2005, an application to revise coal mining
<br />operations at the Trapper Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by
<br />Trapper Mining Inc.. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this
<br />date of filing.
<br />The operator proposed to leave tlventy-five ponds as permanent structures. These ponds would provide water for
<br />livestock and wildlife and would support the post-mining land-use of Rangeland. The following ponds are
<br />proposed for retention: No Namf: #2, 4, and 5, Johnson 6, 7R, 8R, 9R, and 1 OR, West Pyeatt 1 and 2, East Pyeatt
<br />1, 2, and 3, Grouse 1 and 2, Oak land 1 and 2; West Flume 1, Middle Flume 1, East Middle Flume 1, East Flume 1,
<br />Deer I, Ute 1, Horse Gulch 1.
<br />The Surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 6 miles South of Craig, Colorado. The permit
<br />area is further described as follows:
<br />Portions of Sections 1, 2, and 3, Township 5 North, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
<br />Portions of Sections 30 and 3 I, Township 6th North, Range 90 West of the 6th P.M.
<br />Portions of Sections 25, 26, 28, 33, 34, 35, and 36, Township 6 North, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
<br />The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Castor Gulch.
<br />Because the above referenced technical revision application would alter previously approved permit conditions or
<br />mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the potential for impacts to threatened or
<br />endangered species of plants or animals, or wildlife species otherwise protected by federal law.
<br />In order for us to approve this revision, we are required to make a finding that "the activities would not affect the
