i
routed through Coyote Dam (MapM51). Water levels in Coyote Dam wi1L be main-
tained to give adequate stn rage for a 10 year-24 hour event and the pumping of
Cult Pit.
Fig. 2-1 illustrates the volume calculations for Cu yote Dam based on maximum
pumping activities. This assinnes two 300 g/m pumps, worked five days per
week, twenty four hours per day.
Fig. 2-1. Volume Calculations for Coyote Dam.
Total Runoff Volume: 9.86 ac-ft
(10-yr. 24-hr. event)
Pumping Volume:
(2 pumps)(300 gpm/pump)(0.1337ft3)(ac-Et )(60 min/hr)(24 hr/day)(5 days)
gallon 43560ft3
= 13.26 ac-ft
Total required capacity = 22.52 ac-ft
Capacity at 6305 ft. (upper gate valve elevation): 49.63 ac-ft
Required additional capacity: 22.52 ac-ft
Total Capacity: 72.15 ac-ft
ld.S. Elevation at total capacity: 6308.0 ft
Crest of emergency spillway elevation: 6313.0 ft
Freeboard: 5.0 ft
As shown by the above calculations, Coyote Dam has sufficient capacity to
impound water from five days of pumping along with total runoff volume from a
10 yr., 24 hr. precipitation event. This volume can be impounded while
retaining five feet of freeboard to the crest of the emergency spillway.
We estimate that it will take six to eight weeks to pump Colt Pit dry.
cont.
