Woody stem density: 1500 stems per acre.
Diversity: The 3 dominant plant species will contribute at least 54% relative cover combined, bit no
more than 75% relative cover. No one species of the three dominant species will contribute less than
3% relative cover. At least one of the 3 dominant species will be a forb.
The Marr mine has successfully achieved Phase I and Phase II bond releases on portions of the mine
via three bond release applications, SLOT approved January 23, 1996, SL02 approved June 26, 2001,
and SL03 approved Februazy 1, 2002.
SLO1: 1st Phase I approved for the 720 Pit on 6/13/95. Reduced bond by $2,171,216.00.
2nd Phase I approved for Pit 1 on 1/23/96. 48 acres. Reduced bond by $521,517.00.
SL02: Phase I bond release was approved June 2001 for backfilling and grading at the Kerr
loadout, south of Walden. Phase II bond release for revegetation and sediment
demonstrations at the 720 pit Area and Pit 1 was included in this bond release. SL02
reduced reclamation liability by -$1,] 17,641.00.
SL03: Phase I Bond Release for the Marr Pit Area at the Marr Mine in Walden, Colorado. SL03
was approved in February 2002 for release of liability for backfilling and grading at the
Marr Pit Area. No monies were returned, liability release only. No backfilling and grading
costs were calculated for this liability release at the time of this bond release.
I have completed an updated reclamation cost estimate of the Marr Mine. I reviewed the September
2003 Midterm Review 5 estimate and updated this estimate to 2005 costs and conditions. The
November 2005 RNS reclamation cost estimate totals $346,662.00. The Division currently holds a
bond in the amount of $700,720.00. The Division holds adequate bond to reclaim the remaining tasks
at the mine site and loadout should it be necessary for the Division to complete the remaining
reclamation. The estimating forms and disk are included with this review for your files.
The following issues have been identified during my review that require the operator to make
corrections to the permit:
1. Permit page 780-846 (rev. 12/99) references vegetation maps applicable to the mine azea and the
load out respectively. The page states that the Kerr Tipple Area Vegetation Map is found on Map
9A. Map 9A is Geologic cross-section C. The division believes the correct map reference should
be Map 19A. Please have the operator correct the permit text to the correct Map reference.
2. Permit page 780-84b (rev. 12/99) indicates that a "summary of vegetation data" is presented on
Table 48. Table 48 in the permit is topsoil suitability information. Please have the operator correct
this reference to the "Statistical Summary of Vegetation types" table.
3. Permit page 780-85 (rev. 12/99) directs the reader to Table 47 for "Disturbed Area Production,
Cover and Composition by Life Form". Table 47 in the permit is "Soil Chemical and Physical
Properties". Please have the operator provide a correct reference to the "Disturbed Area
Production, Cover and Composition" table.
Maxx Mine, C-1980-006, RNS 2
