Mined Land Reclamation Division letter dated 19 February 1985
Re: Eagle-Gypsum Mine Technical Revision
No topsoil will be placed over the fill area. The area is dominated
by gypsum badlands with little topsoil present. Topsoil encountered
is to be stockpiled for mine area reclamation. The burden to be
placed in fill is basically siltstone, gypsum rock and gypsite. 'Ihe
seed mix to be used in reseeding is a mix recommended by the BLM
for this soil type and condition. Previously disturbed areas have
shown some ability to recover and to support native vegetation
(primarily sagebrush and russian thistle) after 3 - 5 years, with
propagation by natural means.
8. The road improvement mentioned by Ms Vaughn was work we were required
to do as a condition of our special use permit. This was road work
improvement from the I-70 / Trail Gulch road intersection to the mine
site. This work has been completed except for gravel surfacing which
is scheduled for completion this summer. A berm is to be built which
will include filling the unused mud pit as shown on the enclosed
sketch. Final contours should more nearly match adjacent natural
ground line conditions than presently exists. We have met on the site
with the County, the Town of Gypsum and the BIM. A general concurrence
was obtained from all so far as the need and acceptance of this work.
Either Kim Harden or myself are available to answer any other concerns at our
Glenwood Springs phone number.
Sincerely,
H and E ingley
cc: Dave Atkins, BLM
Susan Vaughn, Eagle
fit., AE ~~b1TE~Ct CQ~PANY
