1
Well location and completion information for the additional groundwater monitoring wells in
1 ~j~
the Pink Gneiss Pit will be submitted to DMG by May 26, 2000.
1
Comment:
' 2. Need an update report regazding: the status of the Evaporation system,~the 12 month
operation of the nano-filtration system, and the backup system to the ano-filtration
' system when it is down for repairs and/or maintenance (in order to maintain the
backfill water level at 8580 feet msl). Submit the report to the Division by May 26,
2000.
t Response:
' The evaporation system was commissioned in July 1999 and was decommissioned April
' 2000. BMRI proposes to keep the water treatment facility on-line for the balance of the TR-
026 water ma~ me ent plan. The enhanced evaporation system was designed to operate
' optimally with a backfill extraction rate of approximately 110 gallons per minute (gpm). Due
to the time required [o appropriately tune the water treatment system, the current groundwater
' pumping rate from the backfill required to maintain the water level elevation at8580 feet msl
greater than the design rate, which probably reflects continued dewatering c~f the backfill
' material. Thus, continued operation of the water treatment facility will ensiure continued
maintenance of the TR-026 water management plan objectives.
' The backup system for the water treatment facility consists of two options. 'I~he final water
' treatment system has been designed and constructed with multiple redundan~es to provide
system backup and to ensure operational consistency for the TR-026 wate>f management
' objectives. The treatment system is comprised of a series of components such hat individual
components can be taken off-line for maintenance, repair or replacement, wh~le the overall
' system continues to treat and dischazge the required effluent volumes. Those component
' redundancies include providing in-line, in-place dual insta(lations~- of a~l mechanical
components which could create considerable down-time exposures. Suc~ components
' include all pumps, membrane-separation equipment, and reagent mixers. The existing ponds

Brttrle Mountain Resources lnc.
2
Mny S. 1000
