MINED LAND WILDLIFE STATSt~NT/EVALUATION (Revised)
For limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for
use by Mined Land Reclamation Board in their consideration of a
mining permit for:
Permit No. M-1980-193
A portion of the South ~
West of the 6~" P.M., E1
kol Sand and gravel m
of Section 22, Townshi
Paso County, Colorado
South, Range
Wildlife Species List:
Wildlife that may inhabit the site or might be found on adjacent
sites include pronghorn antelope, prairie dogs, burrowing owls,
Ferruginous hawks, mountain plover, and prairie rattlesnake.
Endangered/Critical .Species/Impacted; _ , __ ~ ___ _ _ _ _
None known at this time.
Critical Habitats/Vegetative Communities Impacted:
The site was characterized by short grass prairie species with
occasional stands of yucca and sagebrush. Grassland species
include blue gramma grass, buffalo grass, yucca, and sagebrush.
Assessment of Impact:
This site has been disturbed for some time. The importance should
be placed on correct reclamation to take place when mining is
completed. Current issues include some erosion on site due to lack
of adequate vegetation growth. There are also some noxious weeds
that will need to be eradicated prior to reclamation.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations (include key species/habitats for
phich restoration is designed):
Reclamation should return the site to original condition, in this
case short grass prairie. There should be native grasses such as
blue gramma and buffalo grass planted in the disturbed area. Yucca
and sagebrush should be part of the vegetative reclamation because
they provide cover for many species of wildlife. Livestock should
be excluded during reclamation to allow growth of the newly seeded
area. ~I
Prepared By: Dy,~y~ Date: 9j/z~IQC
Submitted By: o.~ ~, Date: Ala/r
This statement is vo'd if not processed within 1 year.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application.
