MINING PLAN
MATERIAL PROCESSING:
Processing of the sand removed from this area will be identical to the processing of sand
removed elsewhere. Basically, the sand will be transported, by conveyor, to the west side of Academy
Boulevard (through the tunnels) where it will be washed and distributed as product. No separate
processing is necessary.
INTEGRATION OF MINING AND RECLAMATION:
Because little or no reclamation can be done in the Little Johnson area or adjacent portions of
Phase 4e until this mining is completed, mining and reclamation will be sequential. That is, when the
mining is completed the reclamation will be implemented on the entire area. In the existing plan, the
final slope for the east side of Phase 4e would be created in the near future and would have a planned
maximum grade of 3:1. But with mining of the Little Johnson area the final reclamation of the east
end of Phase 4e must be delayed until the Little Johnson area is completed. Although this results in a
delay of reclamation, the benefit is that the final slope will be far more gradual, it will be covered with
better soil and it should revegetate much better than the existing plan would produce. The benefit to
the final reclamation product far exceeds the deficit of the additional time until reclamation occurs.
Because of constantly changing land uses, as well as future plans for this area by the Security
Water District, the actual time when reclamation will begin is difficult to determine. At this point in
time, it is expected that reclamation wiil begin upon completion of the mining, as required by law. It
is possible that, at the completion of mining, these future uses will be more definite and other options
will be considered. Further detail on this aspect is provided in the Reclamation Plan (Exhibit E) and in
the next section of this exhibit.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Little Johnson Amendment - M-~s~s-OO7 Exhibit D Page 8
