We are requesting a public hearing for
recent permit requested by Castle Concrete. We request that this
hearing take place in Colorado Springs because of the significant
inpact this has on the local community. We would also appreciate
an evening hearing to facilitate public attendance.
We are also requesting party status for any future hearings on this
issue. Representatives from our group including:
Kerri Quinn Schmitt
Jane Ragle
Dr. John Smith
Dr. Edward A. Schmitt
John Covert
Hal Pratsko
These individuals as well as three other members of our organization
which will be designated by me and submitted to the board before
the hearing date, are requesting party status.
We would like to go on record opposing the above permit request
for the following reasons:
DRAINAGE
The natural drainage occuring in the gully between phase III and
phase IV could be altered thus causing increased erosion and damage
to Fountain Creek located at the foot of the valley.
The suggested benching method will provide wider benches and shorter
vertical walls. Larger flat areas may retain more water than would
occur naturally thus causing a reduction of water draining into the
canyon and Fountain Creek drainage.
F~LhING ROCKS
By its own admission, Castle Concrete agrees that their will be
rocks and debris falling into the canyon below.
FLASH FLOODING AND SOIL EROSION
Increased mining operation will increase sedimentation when roads
-are widened to accomidate greater truck activity.
Areas already mined have had little or no reclamation attention.
___. We request that additional mining or expansion not be allowed until
