2.05.5 POST-MINING LAND USE
Map No. 17 shows the post-mining topography. After regrading and vegetation,
the proposed post-mining land use is rangeland, and the prescribed revegetation
will greatly improve the site as a rangeland over the previous use as an
abandoned mine area. Also, the mild slopes will make the area more suitable
as a rangeland than that which existed prior to any mining.
The small drainage that enters the site from the northeast has been re-
established to drain into the Starkville Gulch drainage as shown on the post-
mining topography map. The sediment pond, access road and permanent diversion
will all remain after reclamation. Enclosed in this section are letters from
the two landowners stating their approval of the post-mining topography and
land use.
RANGE MANAGEMENT PLAN
A. Under no circumstances will grazing begin until it is demonstrated to the
Division that the vegetation cover on the reclaimed surface is well established.
B. Fora period of 1 year after the vegetation has been established, 5 head of
cattle will be allowed to graze on the 22.9 acres of reclaimed surface land.
A large portion of this area is the refuse facility, which will have been
steadily reclaimed as it was constructed, thus allowing a greater time to
establish vegetation.
C. In the second year after vegetation has been established, 10 head of cattle
will be allowed to graze on the surface reclaimed land.
D. After the second year of vegetation establishment, grazing may be increased
only if it is demonstrated that there have been no signs of overgrazing up to
that time, and that the increase in grazing will provide no additional dangers
to the vegetation cover.
E. Grazing will not be allowed to interfere with any post-mining vegetation
sampling.
D. H. EMLING COMPANY
