PLAN TO COLLECT, RECORD AND REPORT SURFACE AND GROUND WATER MONITORING DATA
SURFACE WATER MONITORING
1. A weather station recording temperature, barometric pressure and precipitation
will be installed at the mine office. Any precipitation amounts will be
recorded so that they can be compared with the performance of all the hydro-
logic structures at the mine site.
2. A crest-stage recorder will be established in the permanent diversion just
above the point that the diversion leaves the permit area. Accurate cross
sectional area and slope measurements will be made at this point. Using
this information, an approximation of the peak flow in the diversion will
be made for each major rainfall event. Readings will be made for each signi-
ficant runoff event. Quality determinations will be made of the flows not
less than once every 3 months, provided that an adequate runoff event occurs.
Quarterly reports will be sent to the Division.
3. A rectangular opening weir box will be installed at the discharge of the
sediment pond dewatering pipe. The weir opening will be 2.5 feet wide and
8 inches high, which will measure a flow of 1.3 cfs, more than the maximum
through the 4 inch dewatering pipe. Quantity measurements will be made for
each discharge event and quality measurements will be made according to the
requirements of the NPDES permit, Ouarterly reports will be submitted to
the Division identifying all measurements taken during the quarter and a
copy of all analysis and reports sent to the Colorado Department of Health
regarding the NPDES permit.
A calibrated rod will be installed in the sediment pond to record the level
of the pond after runoff events, and also to compare the outflow through the
dewatering pipe with the head of the water in the pond. This information
will also be included with the quarterly reports sent to the Division.
D. H. EMLING COMPANY
