Richardson -Spokesman
21700 Hwy. 550 S.
Montrose, CO 81401
(303) 249-5741
Dr. Mr. Dilly,
As stated in the topic heading, this letter is being submitted to you and the "Board"
in response to the notification to adjacent land owners and public notices in the Daily
Press (of Montrose) by United Companies. We hope that the following text of this letter
will warrant a hearing / or a review by the "Board" over the concerns outlined by local
citizens of the Montrose community and of our group of local land owners.
The following outlined concerns stem from a hub of 18 surrounding landowners whc
are the spokespersons of a large and growing number a Montrose County residents
from whom you will be hearing from personally in the near future.
A. Loss o! Scenic Value
1. We are located 10 miles north from the entrance to a scenic byway
2. Surrounding businesses solely rely on the majesty and beauty of our
area attractions (i.e. campground, bed & breaMast, outdoor adventures
and outfitting, chuck wagon, and retreats).
3. Uncompahgre River walk and bike (right -ot-way has been
obtained and planned over a year from United's application). This
path passes directly in front of the proposed mine/asphalt/ concrete
land.
B. Diminished Property Values
We are in the most highly requested area of the Uncompahgre Valley
real estate. Values are at the highest ever, due to the area's character of
agriculture, majestic views of the San Juan Mountains, the Cimarrons, the
Uncompahgre Plateau, and the Uncompahgre River. The proposed "out- of-
character" operation will have tremendously adverse effects during
operation" on real estate and quality of living.
