Areas where drilling is difficult due to seeps/wetlands and
steeper slopes (some 2:1 slopes along northern permit boundary above the fmal 3:1 sloped
highwall) will be seeded via broadcast at twice the recommended rate for drill application. As
stated below in (f) (iii), and crimped straw mulch will be used and weed control will be as
necessary. Seedbeds will be firm and clean tilled. Seeding of stockpiled topsoil for stabilization
will be broadcast and raked by hand using the same recommended seed mix as above. USDA
recommended seedbed preparation date is late June with July 1 to I S recommended for seeding.
Dormant seeding recommendations are from October 1 S to April I S.
(iii) Fertilization - if applicable, specify types, mixtures, quantities and time of
application.
USDA has made no recommended fertilizer application, however straw mulch is to
be applied at a rate of 1000#/acre and crimped with a disk; weed control will be as
necessary. Application of mulch after seed application; seeding date after October
IS
(iv) Revegetation -specify types of trees, shrubs, etc., quantities, size and location.
The only shrub species recommended is the Saltbush (4-wing) which will be seeded
at a rate of LO Ibs/acre across the entire site.
(v) Topsoiling -Specify anticipated minimum depth or range of depths for those azeas
where topsoil will be replaced.
Stockpiled topsoil will be replaced over the pit floor and 3:l slopes after ripping and
final grade has been established to a thickness of 4 to 6 inches. Topsoil will be
replaced on alt disturbed surfaces.
