• ~
Ey.HIHIT "D"
AMENDED MINING PLAN
[t is anticipated that mining wilt continue to be accom-
plished with front-end loaders in dry materials and with
draglines in wet materials. It is proposed that mining will
continue in the previously permitted area until a lake with a
surface area of approximately 20 acres has been developed.
Mining will then begin in the NE corner of Section 3 and con-
tinue Snto the SE corner of Section 34 until a lake of up to
11.1 acres will have been developed by the extraction pro-
cess. Dewatering efforts have proven to be less than
satisfactory, and therefore, no dewatering operations are an-
ticipated or proposed at this time. The applicant does
intend to maintain the discharge permit in came some dis-
charge could possibly be necessary in the future. In
accordance with the current permit, no extraction will be
done within 100' of the river bank.
All wash waters now used in the aggregate processing are re-
turned to the excavation areas, and no discharge into the
Arkansas River of wash water is expected or proposed.
Demand for aggregates in the Pueblo area has far exceeded the
applicant's original estimates. Demand now is for ap-
proximately 150,000 tons per year, which amounts to
approximately 3 acres per year of extraction, with the aver-
age depth of excavation of 20 feet. Since application with
the Water Court has been made to convert 100 acre feet of wa-
ter rights to evaporation loss at this time, this would allow
approximately 31.1 acres of exposed water surface. Southwest
Ready-Mix does own extensive amounts of water rights through
purchases of various parcels of land in the area, and might
apply in the future for conversion of more of these rights to
the Water Court, which would allow for more surface area to
be exposed in the future. For the present, active extraction
will be limited to a total of 31.1 acres of water surface or
less.
Excavated wet areas will be excavated on a 2:1 slope to a
point approximately 5 feet below normal groundwater level.
From that point to ground level will be sloped on a 3H:1V or
flatter slope.
