NCEC - Technical Revision -2- June 13, 1988
•
Chemical Parameters (Cont.
SAR
Sulfate
Alkalinity
TDS
Conductivity (lab)
pH (lab)
Nitrate .
•
•
During rock tunnel development, the same sites will be monitored monthly for
the field parameters listed and quarterly for the chemical parameters listed.
Although there may be some confusion about the requirements for the surface
water site (CR-2), the permit (Stipulation 3 C) states that this site will be
monitored quarterly for the field parameters only.
3.0 MONITORING PERFORMANCE
According to the 1987 Hydrologic Report prepared by NCEC, all required
monitoring was performed, except for the following:
CR-2' 2 quarters
1-SK-3H 1 quarter
2-SK-3H 2 quarters
SK-3.75 4 quarters
The missed data from the SK-3H completions and SK-3.75 was the result of
apparent equipment failure and vandalism, respectively. In addition, access
to SK-3.75 has proven to be difficult, except under completely dry conditions.
The data missed from CR-2 was the result of oversight by relatively
inexperienced NCEC personnel.
4.0 PROPOSED MODIFICATION TO THE NCEC MONITORING SYSTEM
After reviewing the groundwater and surface water data collected to date
within the context of the proposed mine operation, it is apparent that certain
stations are not contributing to the intended operational monitoring for the
site.
New Castle Energy Corporation
