During a final release inspection, the
Division of Minerals and Geology noted that some concrete abutments were located
in the North Fork of the Gunnison River. These abutments were left in place
during the reclamation of the Bear No. 1 and No. 2 Mines, which occurred in the
early 1980's. The abutments either supported the river bridge or the conveyor
which crossed the river.
It is our understanding that you believe the abutments should be left in place.
You indicated that the abutments provided good erosion protection. You also
indicated that removal of the abutments would not serve any useful purpose and
could actually harm the integrity of the riprap lining in the river channel.
Please sign in the place provided and return this letter to us if you agree that
the abutments should be left in place based on the above reasoning.
Sincerely,
BE/~=~L COMPANY, INC.
William A.
