Long
Division Dneclor
DATE: February 28, 2000
SUBJECT: Bowie No. 2 Mine, Permit No. C-96-083, Technical Revision No. 13
I have completed my review of the groundwater aspects of Technical Revision No. 13 for the
Bowie No. 2 Mine. I have identified no major concerns regarding groundwater or hydrology
monitoring as a result of the incidental boundary change and mine plan change.
As part of the PR-02 adequacy review, Bowie Resources Limited (BRL) committed to monitoring
existing wells 57A, 57B, 58A, and 58B (located down gradient of the proposed longwall panels).
In addition BRL proposed to construct five additional monitoring wells during 2000 (also located
down gradient of the proposed longwall panels in Sections 33 and 34). Please refer to BRL's
response letter to PR-02 adequacy questions dated July 6, 1999. I have the following corttments
with respect to BRL's commitment to monitoring these wells.
Wells 57A, 57B, 58A, and 58B have been added to Map 09 -Hydrology Monitoring Location
Map. However, it does not appear that the PAP has been updated accordingly with information on
sampling frequencies and parameters. We should request that BRL update the PAP to include this
information.
Two wells referred to as drill location IP99-10 and three wells referred to as drill location IP99-7A
are proposed for construction during 2000. We should check the status of these proposed wells and
follow up with BRL to ensure that these wells are conswcted and included in the approved
monitoring plan.
Provided that these wells are monitored, I have no adequacy concerns with respect to the incidental
boundary change and mine plan change.
Please let me know if you require additional information.
C: Lany Rou[[en
