Lens
Div6inn Director
DATE: July 7, 2000
SUBJECT: Bowie No. 2 Mine, Permit No. C-96-083, Technical Revision No. 16
I have reviewed Technical Revision No. 16 for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. I have identified no major
concerns regarding groundwater or hydrology monitoring as a result of BRL's proposed permit
boundary change. This revision is similaz to Technical Revision No. 13. The same issues that I
identified in my review of TR13 apply to this revision as well. Please see my attached memo dated
February 28, 2000.
Please note [ha[ wells 58A and 58B will likely be mined through when longwall mining
commences in the D4 Panel. However, BRL appears to still have an adequate groundwater
monitoring network downgradient of the proposed boundary change. Wells 57A and 57B are
located in the D6 Panel. Two additional drill locations consisting of five monitoring wells are
proposed for construction during 2000. These are drill location IP99-10 and drill location IP99-7A
located in Sections 33 and 34, respectively.
I recommend that you check the status of these proposed wells and follow up with BRL to ensure
that these wells are constructed and included in the approved monitoring plan.
Let me know if you require additional information.
