Phase II - 16.7tacres. About 12*_ acres to be disturbed.
Area to be mined over a period anticipated to be
about 10 to 12 years. Benches to be developed in
conjunction with the operation. Final reclamation
to begin upon completion of operations.
Soil Salvage
Exhibit I provides information pertaining soils in this area.
Because of the discontinuous occurrence of soil, steep terrain and
logistics and safety hazards of trying to salvage available soil, selective
soil salvage will be required during the course of operations. Therefore,
determinations of potential volumes will be available only following actual
stripping activities. Where possible, the upper 8 to 12 inches of+itbe.soil~
profile will ba otl+o~ei and-stocicpt28d.~ As a stabilization measure, any
soil stockpiled for one growing season or longer will be planted xttiva
perennial sod-forming grass cover.. The company will provide an estimate in
its annual report of the volume of soil salvaged during the previous
operating season. A materials balance will be submitted to address
specific reclamation uses of the medium salvaged. Placement of soil and
revegetation can occur on the higher benches once the operations are
completed there.
Mining Operation
The upper portion of the area to be mined is composed of extensively
weathered granite (grus). This material can be mined by simple ripping of
the grus using a DSL or D9 dozer with a single shank or multi-shank ripper.
When more competent rock is encountered it will be mined by
traditional methods used for development of hard rock open pits. The rock
will be drilled, blasted and removed by using wheeled loaders and haul
trucks. Dozers and other equipment will also be used for maintenance and
development. The rock will be sized on site by crushing and screening and
