EXHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
The area covered by this application is phase 2 of a thirty year,
six phase mining plan. Phase 2 will begin with removal of topsoil
from the 12.2 acres of extractable area and stored separately in the
overburden storage areas noted on the photomap. The overburden
removal will be contracted to Bob Faucher who will use a 10 yard
International Harvester scraper and a D7 Cat. A front end loader may
also be used in the stripping process, though its primary use will be
gravel removal. Sand and gravel may also be removed with a drag line.
The depth of the overburden ranges up to 6 feet and consists of a dark
brown clayey sand. The thickness of the gravel ranges from 18 to 22
feet followed by gray claystone. The pit will be wet year round
therefore a 20 horsepower, six inch pump will be used for dewatering.
The discharge water will be pumped from a settling pond into the Big
Thompson River at the southern end of the extraction area. Approximately
1700 gpm of water is pumped from a prior pit for washing and is returned
to the existing settling ponds near the office and equipment area. No
water from the washing operation is discharged into the river. Mined
material will be hauled by truck to the existing crushing, washing, and
sizing plant by way of the haul roads noted on the Mining Plan (Exhibit
C). Temporary truck crossing signs will be placed on Wilson Avenue
when it is necessary to use the high water haul road. This will be the
only time dirt or mud may be deposited on an improved road. If the
deposit becomes excessive, it will be removed. The extraction area will
be a wet pit; therefore, it should not be necessary to water down any
active areas other than haul roads for dust control. It is estimated
that 130,000 to 150,000 tons of sand and gravel will be extracted each
year to complete the operation, including reclamation within five years.
Final grading and seeding as part of the reclamation plan will be
completed within the last three to six months, unless weather conditions
prohibit entry into the area.
