Cover
The parameter values below reflect sample values for vegetation cover sampling in
1996 at the Keenesburg Mine.
•
Reference Area 1985 Reclaimed 1986 Reclaimed 1987 Reclaimed
bar 43.20 31.20 37.47 37.73
s 4.59 5.39 4.81 4.77
n 15 15 15 15
Nmin 4 9 5 5
kalculated 4.05 0.79 0.65
note: ttable(0.1)(1)(28) value was 1.313
Based on total vegetation sample means, none of the reclamation areas exceeded the
total vegetation cover mean of the Osgood Sand Reference Area in 1996. When a
Students-t test was performed, the 1986 and 1987 Reclamation Areas were found to be
not significantly different in total vegetation cover from the Osgood Sand Reference
Area. The total vegetation cover mean from the 1985 Reclamation Area was found to
be significantly different from that of the Osgood Sand Reference Area in 1996.
The table below summarizes the species composition data obtained from the 1996
sampling at the Keenesburg Mine. Additionally, the current species composition
success standard from the Keenesburg CDMG permit is included for reference and
comparison. From the 1996 data, only the 1985 Reclamation Area would completely
satisfy the current species composition success criterion. Interestingly, the Osgood
Sand Reference Area would not satisfy the current species composition success
requirements.
Species Composition
Success
Standard Reference
Area 1985
Reclaimed
Total Perennial Species '] 5 '7
Warm Season Grasses 4 3 4
Perennial Forbs ] 1 1
Rel.
