The Division wonders whether the development mining proposed for the Wadge Seam in
Sections I l and 14, TSN, R86W, which will be downdip of the coal mined in the Middle
Creek Mine, may encounter inflows similar or greater to those seen in the Middle Creek
Mine. If so, the Division questions how this potential inflow would be managed. Given that
the distance from Section 1 l to the nearest mine water discharge point (l0 Right Dewatering
Well) is approximately 3 miles, it would seem that a discharge facility may possibly be
needed in the N''/z of Section 11, possibly utilizing the Fish Creek Tipple facility and
sedimentation pond situated even further to the north.
Please discuss whether Twentymile Coal Company expects to see any mine water inflows in
the Wadge Seam in the mining proposed for Sections 11 and 14, TSN, R86W. Please also
discuss how Twentymile Coal Company would handle mine water inflows in the portion of
the mine proposed to underlie Sections 11 and 14, TSN, R86W, if these potential inflows
were equal to or greater than the inflows observed at the Middle Creek Mine.
70. Rule 2.04.6: Two items from the Division's review of RN-03 were to be addressed in our
review of PR-O5. These items had been enumerated in the Division's March 2, 1998 RN-03
adequacy letter as Items 73(a) and 73(b).
With regazd to RN-03 item 73(a), the permit's Geologic Cross Sections indicate that the
faults depicted on Maps 6 and 23 are steeply-dipping, with varying dip direction. RN-03
Item 73(a) has been adequately addressed.
With regazd to Item 73(b), information pertaining to the geochemical analysis of the coal
and the roof and floor material from the Northern Mining District has been provided with
the PR-OS application in Tables 20D, 20E, and 20F. RN-03 Item 73(b) has been addressed.
71. Rule 2.04.6: The last two sentences of proposed permit page 2.04-16.2 state, "Roof, floor,
and coal samples were obtained from holes 97006 and 97007. The data is presented on
Table 20F." Please revise the last sentence to state, "The data is presented on Tables 20D,
20E, and 20F.", to be consistent with the information actually presented in those tables.
Cc: Dave Berry
