r ~
planted over this area in the event the option is exercised to return it to
pastureland. I talked with Mr. Mathews about this and during the discussion
indicated that the fields azound the portal area have been seeded previously
with a predominately alfalfa seed mixture. However, the area immediately
adjacent to the portal was seeded with a mixture that included alfalfa and
wheatgrasses and suggest that this azea be used as the reference area for the
site when the reclamation process progresses to that point. The area has been
shown on Map 20. Mr. Mathews suggested that the reference area location be
verified this summer and I would agree with that thought given the varied uses
and plantings that occurred in this over the years. Finally, as the Division
noted, Empire is not implying that the same diversity standazd and woody
plant density standard be applied to this area.
24. Map 20 has been modified to show the appropriate range sites. During the
discussion with Mr. Mathews it was agreed that if he had further concerns with
the range site descriptions he would follow up accordingly. Also, Map 20 has
been modified to show the location of the pastureland reference azea for the No.
9 Portal.
25. The general sign for the plant growth media will be placed below the No. SA
Portal area pad.
In reference to Figure 56-B, the signed copies are included for inclusion in the
permit. Also, I have reviewed the bond calculation and a rider will be
submitted under separate cover for the increase in bond amount.
If there are further questions, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely
Cox{'e//~i~~G'~/
Richazd Mills
Environmental Manager
attachments
cc: Moffat County Clerk and Recorder
BLM
OSM
file:i: \ empire \ tr29ad l .doc
