~~ • •
In response to a question raised in Mr. Baldwin's letter to me, regarding which agency's list of noxious weeds
"trumps" the other agency's list, my impression is as follows' The "State weed law" places primary authorih~ in the
hands of counties and cities, for identifying the noxious weeds which are to be treated, which treatment strategies or
enforcement are to be used, etc. 1 do not believe that our "Guidelines" are meant to override any part of your or any
local government's weed control program. Specifically, if Montrose County does not designate field bindweed or
perennial sow thistle as species to be included in the county program, it is urv understanding that there is no
problem or conflict from our perspective. 1 apprecaiate Mr. Baldwin asking for clarification on ttus matter.
1 look forn-ard to your weed reports to be submitted later this season. if you have questions or comments, I may be
reached at the Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio, Room 12~, Durango, CO 81301; tel 970/247-
~ 193 or fax 970/247-~ 104.
Sincerely,
~,~ ~~~
Bob Oswald
Enviroiunental Protection Specialist
cc: Mr. A.
