Holgate;
Salt Creek hfining Company is in the process of evaluating sealing
the Munger Canyon Portals and reclaiming the mine site. In
accordance with 30 CR 75.1711 Salt Creek requests approval of the
metf,od of closing the niirte drat is described belosv.
Salt Creek intends to close the drift entrances to the mine as
prescribed i.n 30 CFR 75.1711-2. Specifically, the entries will be
backfilled for at least Z5 feet with incombustible material. In
addition to filling the entrances as prescribed, Salt Creek intends
to construct a seal at the inby end of the area that will be
backfilled. 'I'Ite seal will be one of two types, either block or
pumped concrete foam. The proposed seal locations are shown on the
enclosed s];etclr of the mine.
Dloclt seals will be located as shown on the enclosed sketch. The
seal shall be constructed of a double row of cinder blocks. The
joints between the blocks shall be mortared. The blocks will be
minimally hitched into tlse rib and floor so that when the entry is
bac}tfilled, the seal will not be damaged. All areas that are
iuLended for seals have existing posts and crossbars to support the
roof.
Should Salt Creek decide to use pumped concrete foam rather than
block to build the seals, the seals shall be installed at the same .
location as the block seals. The pumped foam concrete seal will not
be lritc}red into the roof, rib or floor. The seal will be at least
two feet thick.
,, ;,,;.. _ _ ~ l
