Dept. of Natural Resources
September 10, 1981
Mr. Steven G. Richardson
Senior Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Steve:
This letter is in response to your questions of August 25, 1981.
The following information is presented in the same order as your
questions:
The final disposition of the Middle Fork and
Davis Gulch dams is still unknown; however, if
they are to remain, the access road will be
needed for dam maintenance. In the event the
dams are removed the meadow fills would also be
removed and salvaged. Topsoil will be spread
over the disturbed area that the fills occupied
and final reclamation would be carried out as
outlined in our reclamation plan shown in
Exhibit E of the permit application.
The cut and fill slopes resulting from the Union
Meadow crossings will be revegetated upon com-
pletion of the disturbance activities. In order
to discourage deer usage of the fill slopes along
the road, a mixture of relatively unpalatable
grasses will be used. Grass species to be seeded
include streambank wheatgrass, basin wildrye,
sand dropseed, buffalo grass, blue gramma and
tall wheatgrass. The seed mixture will be
hydroseeded at a moderate rate, fertilized as
required, and hydromulched. Herbicides may be
applied if necessary to control weeds and un-
desirable plants.
we are presently anticipating that 12 inches of
topsoil will be salvaged. This would yield
approximately 3600 cubic yards of material to be
picked up which should yield a swelled volume of
4300 cubic yards. Attachment 1 is a drawing of
the proposed topsoil stockpile. Attachment 2 is
a soil survey report for the Union Meadows area.
A DIVISION OF E%%ON CORPORATION
