The West Pit area currently has five ponds and a building that houses the water
• treatment facility. Under this permit amendment, all ponds and the building will
remain for purposes of providing flexibility in continued water management (in the
case of the ponds) and as a combined workshop/office building for site personnel.
E.3 Revised Tailings Disposal Area Reclamation Plan
The 1989 Permit Amendment showed conceptualized preliminary reclamation plans
for the tailings surface. During development of the TDA, drainages on the east and
south were diverted to a channel that skirts the southern boundary of the TDA. Upon
final reclamation, the plan called for breaching of the diversion channel at each of the
tributaries and routing of tributary flow across the reclaimed TDA surface with
subsequent dischazge to a spillway on the northwest comer of the tailings
embankment (Drawing 1 Tailings Impoundment Reclamation Plan; AM-01). BMRI
proposes to leave the diversion ditch on the east and south in place and continue to
route upland flow in the existing diversion channel as part of the final reclamation for
• the TDA. In order to prevent accumulation of precipitation on the reclaimed TDA
surface, additional grading will be required [o route water to the spillway channel
constructed along the northeasterly perimeter of the TDA.
E.4 Assumptions
Remaining reclamation items in the Tailings Disposal Area include:
• Completing reclamation of the tailings surface,
• Constructing a spillway in the northwest comer of Tailings Disposal Area,
and
• Reclaiming the Collection Pond.
Recent (2003) survey measurements of the Tailings Disposal Area indicate that 22.6
acres of the tailings surface remains to be reclaimed. In order to achieve a tailings
surface that does not impound water, the revised Tailings Disposal Area reclamation
• plan includes construction of a spillway near the right abutment of the tailings dam.
Battle Mountain Resources, Inc.
