1
1
' S.2 Network and Configuration
5.2.1 Pre-Mining State
' No large scale mapping or small contour interval mapping is available of the area that
pomays pre-mined conditions. From the small scale mapping available, the area was similaz
' to the present reclaimed state. A gravel, and then dirt, road entered the area from Highway
151 near Ditch 2S2b, and followed the general alignment of the dirt roads associated with
Ditches 2S2b, 2S2a, and 251. It then continued along Ditch 3N2 towards the vicinity of
' Pond 003. The impact of this road on the water quality of pre-mining runoff is considered
equivalent to impacts associated with the present road; therefore, this demonstration
addresses roads in their current location for both pre-mining and reclaimed states. Runoff
from the pre-mined East Pit Area likely discharged into Stollsteimer creek towazds the
' northwest, and across the alluvial valley floor meadows, eventually reaching Stollsteimer
Creek, to the west. In this demonstration, flows are routed to the location of Sedimentation
' Pond 002 by Ditches 2Nb, 2Na, 2S, 251, 2S2a, 2S2b, and 2S2c for a comparison of pre-
mined and reclaimed conditions runoff water quality.
' x.2.2 Reclaimed State
The dirt roads and associated Ditches 251, 2S2a, 2S2b, and 2S2c are proposed for retention.
' Other ditches and Sedimentation Pond 002 would be removed. However, these ditches
along with Ditches 2S, 2Na, and 2Nb are used in this demonstration to convey runoff to the
' location of Sedimentation Pond 002 to compare runoff water quality under pre-mined and
reclaimed conditions. After removal of Ditches 25, 2Na, and 2Nb, and Sedimentation Pond
002, runoff from the East Pit Area will flow to Stollsteimer Creek to the northwest. and
' across the alluvial valley floor meadows, eventually reaching Stollsteimer Creek (to the west),
similar to pre-mining conditions.
' S.3 Soils
The East Pit Area is located on Carracas soils (see Paragraph 3.1).
' d.4 Land Use Condition (LUC)
' Reference is made to Paragraph 2.4.
~.~ Curve Number (CN)
d.5.1 Pre-IVfined State
' A CN value of 37 over Carracas Loam is developed in Paragraph 2.7 for the Rangeland
Reference Area (1996 Vegetation Survey).
Page 17 of 3~1, 7 Oct 96
