MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
Department of NaturJ Resources
1313 Sherman SI.. Banta,
Division Director
This letter is in regard to our phone conversation earlier today in
which we discussed permitting actions by the three coal mines
referenced above.
Two maps from the Colowyo permit revision are enclosed. These maps
indicate the areas of surface disturbance for the current and
proposed p:it areas as well as the general operations area. Details
of the rer~lamation plans for the mine are contained in other
sections o:F the permit. As I mentioned on the phone, the Division
does not track acreages of disturbance in potential wetland areas.
However, the entire disturbed area will be reclaimed to approximate
original contour and to an approved post-mine land use. As a part
of the reclamation obligations, the operator is also required to
reestablish drainage patterns which were disturbed by mining.
In regard i:o the H-G Mine, I indicated that the permitting action
referred to your office was the renewal of a five year permit. The
H-G mine site was reclaimed approximately seven years ago. The
operator is renewing the permit because they are still under
liability for the ares and the State holds a reclamation bond for
the mine. No additional surface disturbance or operations are
proposed for the site in conjunction with the permit renewal.
In regard to the Lillylands Mine, a copy of a letter from Mr. Grady
McNure of your office is enclosed. In the letter, Mr. Mcnure
states that: "a Department of the Army Permit is not required for
development: on the site". While the letter is not signed, the
Division assumed that the letter is legitimate and did not
anticipate any additional comments from the Corps.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ~
STATE OF COLORADO
