TRAPPER MINING INC.
SAND AND GRAVEL, SITE
• Attachment I-1 Contd. - Page 2
If the range is overgrazed, the proportion of preferred forage plants decreases
and the proportion of less-preferred forage planCe increases. Therefore, live-
stock grazing should be managed so that the desired balance of preferred species
is maintained in the plan[ community.
Range seeding is suitable if the range is in poor condition. Suitable seeding
mixtures can include western wheatgrass, thickspike wheatgrass, and streambank
wheatgrass. There may be some difficulty in obtaining seed for some or all 8f
these species. The plants selected for seeding should meet the seasonal
requirements of livestock or wildlife, or both, Successful seedings can be
expecCed only in years of above-normal precipiCation. Seeding late in fall
helps to insure that the content of moisture in the soil will be adequate for
the establishment of seedlings next spring.
Brush management improves deteriorated areas of range that are producing more
woody shrubs than were present in the potential plant community.
Management practices suitable for use on this unit are proper grazing use,
deferred grazing, and rotation grazing.
If this unit is used for homesite development, the main limitations are very
• slow permeability, strength.
Septic tank absorption fields of conventional size do not function properly on
this unit. Use of long absorption lines and sandy backfilt for the trench helps
to compensate for the restricted permeability. Roads and streets should be
designed to offset the effects of low strength by using materials of high
strength.
This map unit is in capability subclass VIIs. It is in Alkaline Slopes range
site.
• JMM/jb
8/30/85
