TRAPPER MINING INC.
SAND AND GRAVEL SITE
• ACtachment I-1. SCS soils description.
AW - Cumulic Haplaquolls, occasionally flooded. These deep, poorly drained, and
very poorly drained soils are on flood plains and stream terraces. They formed
in alluvium. Elevation is 6,000 to 7,000 feet. The mean annual precipitation
ranges from 12 to 16 inches, and the average air temperature is 42 to 45 degrees
F.
The soil is saturated by ground water throughout [he soil profile from NovemBer
through May and often has distinct mottles in the lower part of the surface
layer. Generally, the A horizon is very dark gray loam about 20 inches thick.
The C horizon is gray stratified loam, clay loam, or clay. In some places sand
and/or gravel is at a depth of 30 to 60 inches.
This unit is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.
This unit is unsuited to homesite development. The main limitations are hazard
of flooding and a seasonal high water table.
This map unit is in capability subclass VIIw.
• SA--Absher very fine sandy loam, 0 to 3 percent elopes. This deep, well-drained
soil is on flood plains and terraces. It formed in mixed alluvium. Elevation
is 6,000 to 7,000 fee[. The average annual precipitation is 12 to 15 inches,
the average annual air temperature is 42 to 47 degrees F, and the average frost-
free period is 75 to 95 days.
Typically, the surface layer is light brownish gray very fine sandy loam 2
inches thick. The subsoil is very strongly alkaline, dark grayish brown and
brown silty clay loam 23 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches
or more is very strongly alkaline, pale brown loam.
Included in this unit are small areas of Tisworth soils, Battlement soils, and
Glendive soils.
Permeability of this Absher soil is very slow. Available water capacity is mod-
erate. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow, and the
hazard of water erosion is low. The hazard of soil blowing is high.
This unit is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.
The potential plant community on this unit is mainly western wheatgrass, alkali
bluegrass, Wyoming big sagebrush, and black greasewood. The average annual
production of air-dry vegetation ranges from 400 to 800 pounds.
• Contd.
