Mr. Robert Stack
April 22, 1997-Red Canyon Appl.
Page 2
vegetation.
~~ 4>
5)
6~

Rule 6.4.3(h), in conjunction with Exhibit I, allows soils information to be presented
on the Exhibit C Map.
Rule 6.4.4(a) requires a description of the methods of mining to be employed in
each stage of the operation... You are approved to mine 38 acres in two (2) phases.
However, you are now proposing to mine the existing 38 acres and a large portion
of the amended acreage as Phase I and mine the balance of the proposed amended
acreage in Phases II, III and IV . Since the proposed phased areas are much larger
than the approved mining plan, will this make a significant difference in the
method of mining or in the reclamation plan?
6) Rule 6.4.4(c) requires a description of all planned water diversions and
~~ ~ 2 impoundments. Please describe how you propose to prevent sediment-laden runoff
.~~_ ,?from entering the Red Creek drainage.
~",,> 7) Rule 6.4.4(d) requires a description of the size of area(s) to be worked or disturbed
l~ at any one time. 'You are currently committed to no more than 12 acres of
~ disturbance at any one time. Is it reasonable to assume that this commitment is
still valid?
8) Rule 6.4.4(e) requires an approximate timetable to describe the mining operation.
~ Please comply with (i) and (ii) of this Rule.
~~L 9) Rule 6.4.4(g) asks that you identify the primary and secondary commodities to be
mined.
b1L. 10) Rule 6.4.4(h) asks that you name and describe the intended use of all expected
incidental products to be mined.
11) The approved mining plan states that the product material will be mined by the
drilling and blasting method which will create a series of cuts that will produce at
least two (2) benches. Each bench will be between 30 and 40 feet above the next
lowest work area. The benches will be approximately 30 feet wide and the overall
L slope gradient will be 2:1 (H:~. The operator requested steeper than 2:1 slopes,
b` but it does not appear the Division approved the request.
The operator is approved to use a crusher, screen(s) and conveyor system to process
the product material. Washing the material is not allowed. However, the operator
states that washing product material will occur at the site, if the amendment
application is approved. This will need to be addressed in Exhibit G. As approved,
blasted rock rubble will be pushed down the steep canyon that forms the boundary
