<br />Exhibit K - Climate <br />Climatic date for the town of Ignacio, located a few miles <br />to the SSW of the pit site, is given here. The period of record <br />for precipitation is 69 years; the period of record for <br />temperature is for 61 years. Other climatic data was obtained <br />from Climates of the States, Colorado, by Joseph Barry, U.S. <br />Department of Commerce, Climatography of the United States, <br />No. 60-5. <br />The mean annual temperature is about 46.2 °F. The mean <br />minimum January temperature is about 8°F.; the mean maximum <br />January temperature stands at about 39 °F, In July, the mean <br />minimum temperature is about 44°F. and the mean maximum <br />temperature in about 87°F. The seasonal temperature ranges <br />from the 90°'s to a low in the -20°'s. <br />The mean annual precipitation is about 14.5 inches. About <br />70B of the precipitation falls between April and September 30th <br />as a result of spring snow and summer storms. Snow during the <br />spring months can amount to a significant amount of moisture <br />in some years. Snow falling on this area melts early, <br />encouraging the growth of cool season grasses. <br />The frost-free period ( daily minimum temperature higher <br />than 32°F. ) averages about 106 days in length; the growing <br />season for native plants in March through September with <br />the optimum growth period in the early spring and summer months. <br />
