Trees, mostly scrub oak, border portions of this part of the pit on the east, west and northern sides. The few trees that will be cut will be used for firewood by the operator. Tree replacement will occur in the amounts indicated in the Wildlife Mitigation Plan and Landscape agreement within the context of the County Land Us~le Planning Permit. For the majority of the area to be affected, little topsoil was salvaged from previous mining activities. Topsoil may be salvaged from a portion of the permit as the pit is expanded slightly in the indicated direction. Topsoil in this area averages approximately four to six inches in thickness. The soil will be stockpiled around the perimeter of the affected area as noted on the Exhibit C map. As a stabilization measure, any topsoil which is to remain in a stockpile longer than one growing season will be broadcast seeded with a perennial sod-forming grass cover such as Western Wheatgrass at a rate of 20 pounds per acre. Conventional equipment will be used for mining the material: D-7 or D-8 dozer, 966 front end loader, hydraulic backhoe, and haul trucks. The scale house is located near the access road but not within the permit area. The material is either mined or removed as pit run or sized by crushing and screening. Various product stockpiles are then created for future sales or processing through the batch plant. A semi- permanent portable batch plant or concrete mix plant exists next to the permit area. Depending on the need for various rock products, as asphalt plant may be used in the area. The anticipated process area (outside of the Amended permit area) for the operation is illustrated on the Exhibit C map. Final reclamation will occur upon completion of mining. However, slope work, soil replacement and re-seeding will occur concurrently with mining as work in the various areas is completed. An abandoned gas collection line ( unlocated ) runs from the gas well illustrated on the Exhibit C map to an area south of the property. The operator maintains the right to relocate the line if necessary to accommodate the mining operation. The small irrigation ditch as illustrated on the original Exhibit C map will be outside the Amended permit area except where it crosses the access road. At the point where the ditch crosses the access road, a culvert is in place to carry the water on downstream.
