Yellow Sweetclover (Melilotus officinalis) is a biennial species and is <br />not considered to be "permanent vegetation"; the "allowable" biennial <br />component for inclusion in the desirable species success standard <br />calculations should not exceed the relative cover or production of <br />biennials documented by reference area or pre-mine sampling. <br />4. A species diversity standard was set for the reclaimed areas designated <br />for post-mining land use of pastureland. Please include a discussion, in <br />your application, regarding the success of the Block A revegetation in <br />meeting the diversity criteria. <br />5. Page No. 780-136-3 states that production data for both rangeland and <br />pastureland, and the respective reference areas will be collected by <br />clipping life forms and the single species Medicago sativa (alfalfa). <br />The various life forms will be clipped, oven rued, an~ighed to the <br />nearest 0.1 gram. The life-form categories include shrub, subshrub, <br />perennial grass, annual grass, perennial forb, alfalfa, biennial forb, <br />annual forb, and undesirable perennial forb. <br />The data summaries for the reclaimed area and reference area sampling do <br />not include all of the life-form categories listed. Please provide this <br />information or an explanation as to why these categories were omitted. <br />6. Please provide details of the grazing practices utilized on the Block A <br />bond release area and the pastureland reference area during years 1990 <br />and 1991. <br />A final decision will be rendered following review of the above-requested <br />information. <br />Please respond to these concerns as soon as possible so that the Division may <br />proceed with the evaluation of your bond release application. <br />If you have any questions, please contact me at the Division office. <br />Sincerely, <br />Kent A.
