•
Ot
~j xe,G
e`~

safe mining operations in that area. Surface drainage will be disrupted by mining activities within a
larger overall acreage. Anew drainage study was performed and is included in an updated Water
Information exhibit.
This amendment, unlike previous amendments, makes a distinction between the limiu of mining and
the limits of disturbance. For the purposes of this amendment, "limit of mining" is defined as the
region of excavation within which product has been or will be extracted; and "limit of disturbance" is
defined as mined areas and areas of affeMed land outside the limits of mining. Land between the
limit of disturbance and the limit of mining will not be mined but will be used for access to mine
workings and for material stockpiles and berms.
The total azea of disturbance to be involved in the operation comprises approximately 184 acres and
reFlects an increase of approximately 50 acres over the presently approved total affected area of 134
acres. Of this increase, the limits of mining will be increased by 38 acres and disturbance outside the
limits of mining will be increased by 12 acres. The areas and changes in areas aze distributed as
follows: ~ - 1(,
~ /~.t+r
r \~ Table I-1
~" ~ Disturbance and Mining Area Suttunary
Location Previous Limit of Increase Limit of Increase
Limit of Mining in Limit Disturbance in Limit
Miningl This of Mining This of
DisNrbance Amendment (Acres) Amendment Disturbance
{Acres) (Acres) (Acres) (Acres)
(1) (2)
North Quarry 32 70 38 78 46
Central Quarry 48 51 3 54 6
South Quarry 45 42 (3) 43 (2)
Process Area 9 9 0 9 0
Totals ]34 172 38 184 50
Notes: 1. Based on Mine Plan Amendment No. 3
2. Includes increase in limit of mining
The onl y area where the limit of mining will be expanded significantly is in the North Quarry area.
This increase is made to accommodate a proposed reservoir in the bottom of the quarry and to
increase the operator's minable reserves. Very slight modifications to the limits of mining are
proposed at the eastern edge of the permit azea at the Central and South Quazries to facilitate
remediation of the east highwall of the Central Quarry and to provide for a temporary stockpile area
that will reduce visual impacts of mining in Unnamed Drainage No. 1.

/'l~~
