g) The location of Ditch F1 is not correctly represented on Map 16a.
It runs along the north side of the county road for a good deal of
its length. Modify the hydraulics calculations if necessary.
RESPONSE
The Division's observation regarding the location of Ditch
F-1 is correct. However, the existing location and design
of Ditch F-1 was approved on August 2, 1984 by the Division
as a minor revision (MR-04). Appropriate designs and maps
showing the location of Ditch F-1 were submitted by Kerr in
seeking approval of this minor revision. Appropriate
modifications have been made to Map 16a, Kerr Mine Area
Surface Water Hydrology indicating the correct location of
this ditch. No other responses or revisions are required to
comply with this request.
h) Please map and design the ditches carrying water from the topsoil
storage areas north of Pond 6 into Pond 6 [sic].
RESPONSE
The ditch carrying water from the topsoil storage areas north
of Pond G have been mapped on revised Maps 16a, Kerr Mine
Area Surface Mater Hydrology, which was submitted earlier
last week along with mid-term responses. A design for this
ditch has been prepared and is included in revisions to
Exhibit 42, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan, which are
included with this submittal for incorporation into the
Division's copies of the Kerr permit document.

i) Is Pond D's western extension as shown on Map 16a correctly
represented? The staff does not recall that it is located so
close to the road.
RESPONSE
Pond D's western extension as shown on Map 16a, Kerr Mine
Area Surface Water Hydrology is correctly represented.
Please note that the plotted location for the boundary of all
sediment ponds shown on Map 16a, Kerr Mine Area Surface Water
Hydrology, is the high water line which is substantially
higher in elevation than water levels typically observed at
the site. Accordingly, while the western extension of Pond
D appears to be rather far from the haul road, if Pond D were
to completely fill it would extend nearly to the road.
4
