6. With regard to the limited amount of topsoil present and its use in
reclamation, it suggested that the 23 ft. wide benches, and not the 12 foot
wide upper oench, be used on the south-facing pit benches, as the majority of
the south-`acing pit benches will be 23 ft. in width. Additionally; it is
fu^ther recommended that both the 12 ft. wide and 23 ft. wide benches on the
nc*tr•-facing pit benches (the "nose" area) be evaluated to adequately compare
the difference between the proposed 15 ft. wide benches currently proposed as
the `final configuration of the north-facing benches in Phase II, and the
Division's 25 f±. bench width recommendation of the north-facing Phase II pit
oencnes. As only a minute fraction of the entire pit is west-facing, the
Division does not view the west-facing test plots as relatively applicable.
Additionally, the Division recommends that vegetative cover and productivity
be evaluated every other year for the entire operation of Phase I to
adeauatel}• monitor long-term growth and maintenance. Submittal of the
quantitave data from the site tests and native reference areas shodkd be
submitted following the growing season.
20. goon further review of the reclamation costs, it was determined that
approximately 27 acres of affected land will require re vegetation efforts,
i.e. 28.1 acres of permitted land -
- 1 acme of USES buffer (25x~800ft.)
- .3 zcres of plunge pools (40r.300ft.)
- .2 acres of channel reconsrtuction (12x800 + 8x800 ft.)
_ acres approxrm;teiy
Therefore, persuant to the attached cost calculations, the Division recommends
that a Phase I bond of E46,000.00 be remitted. (a tentative Phase II bond of
S:i .000.00 has been calculated)
Please contact me if ycu have any further questions.
Sincerely,
~ ~~
..Cam;l~e M.
