Phase IVc Summary No. 10 Page 2
043-2170
surface acceptance.

•
I •
Ames continued production of bentonite-amended SLF at the screen plant and pug mill located above
the Ames materials yard. Ames also continued limited production of Drain Cover Fill (DCF) material
at the screen plant by the secondary crusher.
Poly-Flex continued deployment of 80-mil single-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane in the Phase
Nc OSA. Geomembrane was installed in the Phase Nc OSA on the south facing slope of Raven Hill
downward to the Phase Fdb/IVc tie-in. Poly-Flex deployed 80-mil single-sided textured LLDPE
geomembrane over an azea of approximately 203,170 square feet in the Phase Nc OSA during this
reporting period. Geomembrane panels C-363 through C-425 were deployed, seamed, and tested by
Poly-Flex. Destructive fusion and extrusion seam samples DFc-129 through DFc-151 and DXc-14
through DXc-15 were mazked and removed. Destructive fusion seam peel and shear tests of samples
DFc-120, DFc-123 through DFc-125, DFc-127 through DFc-128, DFc-130 through DFc-151, and DXc-
14 through DXc-15 were performed and passed per project specification.
Ames continued limited placement and grading of DCF material into the Phase Nc OSA in the western
and central portion of the VLF, Saddle Fill area. Ames placed DCF material onto approved
geomembrane panels and High Volume Solution Collection (HVSC) piping per the project plans.
A map of the azea worked during this reporting period is provided in Attachment C.
Field Monitorin¢ and Testing Activities
Golder observed constmction activities associated with Phase Nc earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in
accordance with project specifications.
Golder observed excavation and construction of the SU in Phase Nc for trench dimensions, slope, and
materials used.
Golder observed placement, compaction, and moisture conditioning of SLF in the Phase Nc OSA for
subgrade prepazation, thickness, compaction, moisture-content, and materials used. The Golder CQA
earthworks monitor performed fifteen nuclear moisture-density tests (SLNc-102 through SLNc-116)
and performed three nucleaz moisture-density retests on SLF that required reworking (SLNc-102a,
103a, and 104a) located within the Phase Nc OSA. The retested SLF met the requirements of the
specifications. Field test results aze presented in Attachment B.
Golder observed geomembrane deployment, documenting ambient temperature, panel dimensions,
thickness, seaming, tie-in overlap, and seam testing (trial seams, pressure testing). Geomembrane
installed in the Phase Nc OSA met the project specification.
Golder visually observed the placement of DCF in the Phase IVc OSA area. Golder CQA monitors
(one monitor per dozer when dozers are greater than 50 feet apart) observed DCF placement and
verified minimum thickness of 2 feet for fmish grade, and 4 feet for haul traffic (i.e, Caterpillar
Mode1740 articulated trucks).
PheselVC IOIWy 11-luly l]2004.doc Golder Associates lnc.
