' Phase IW Weekly Summary No. 26 Page 3
Field Monitoring and Testing Activities
003-2203
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase >V earthworks. All construction materials
and soil materials placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in accordance with
project specifications.
Golder observed placement, compaction, and moisture conditioning of SLF in the Phase IVb OSA
for subgrade preparation, thickness, compaction, moisture content, and materials. The Golder CQA
Earthworks monitor performed sixteen nuclear moisture-density tests (SLNb-175 through SLNb-
190) and performed four nucleaz moisture-density retests on SLF that required reworking (SLNb-
176a, -181a, -182a, and -189a) located within the Phase IVb OSA. The tested SLF met the
requirements of the specifications. Field test results aze presented in Attachment B.
Golder observed placement of secondary and tertiary FTVSCS piping in the Phase IV'b OSA,
verifying construction and layout per the project plans.
Golder visuaIIy observed placement and grading of DCF in the Phase IVb OSA. Golder CQA
monitors (one monitor per dozer when dozers aze greater than 50 ft apart) observed DCF placement
and verified minimum thickness of 2 feet for furish grade, 4 feet for HVSCS primary pipe locations,
5 feet for 773 equipment, and 10 feet for haul road construction and equipment.
Golder visually observed removal of DCF from the Phase IVb / Phase I /Phase II tie-in area. Golder
marked damage caused to the geomembrane for subsequent repair during Phase IVb geomembrane
tie-in construction.
Golder observed anchor trench excavation in the Phase IVb OSA for proper location and dimension
(2' wide by 3' deep). Anchor trench excavation met or exceeded the requirements of the
specifications. Golder also provided part-time observation for anchor trench backfilling, verifying
construction per project plans.
Golder observed geomembrane deployment, documenting ambient air temperahue, panel
dimensions, thiclaress, seaming, tie-in overlap, and seam testing (trial seams, pressure, vacuum, and
destructive). Geomembrane placed in the Phase IVb OSA met the project specifications.
Laboratory Tests
Golder obtained QA samples of Drain Cover Fill (DCFb-11), and Soil Liner Fill (SLFb-18).
Laboratory index testing was conducted on samples of Drain Cover Fill (DCFb-11), and Soil Liner
Fill (SLFb-18) to verify suitability of materials used. Laboratory test results aze presented in
Attachment B.
Meetings
CC&V held a Weekly Contractors meeting on July 15, 2003. Items discussed included Safety,
Environmental, Schedule, and CQA. The next weekly meeting will be held on July 22, 2003 at
10:00 AM.
Phas<Nb 26 July13Ju1y19, 2003 Golder Associates Inc.
