irrigation of the surrounding pasture lands. In the limited Permit area currently being mined, no
appreciable groundwater was discovered.
It is planned that the pit will be mined year round. As mentioned before, the pit will be dry mined.
The existing irrigation ditches on the operation site wfll be avoided during mining to avoid disruption
of the irrigated pastures.
The following table shows the estimated amount and uses for water in this operation. Until operations
begin and all equipment is in use, we will not know actual consumption. Water usage through dust
control associated with the crushing screening plant is 4% of the tonnage throughput. The total
estimated water consumption during mining will be 20.16 acre-feet.
USE FLOW RATES ANNUAL VOLUME
(estimated) CONSUMED IN AC-FC
GRAVEL CRUSHING(15-26 weeks/yr) 20,000GPD 66.30
DUST CONTROL (36 weeks/yr) 10,000GPD 6.63
ASPHALT PLANT (36 weeksJvrl 500 GPD 0.27
TOTAL WATER NEEDS:
73.20 AC-FT
Two water wells exist neaz the permit area. All were installed long before the azea was originally
permitted. The landowner states that they aze "good" wells with high production and clean water.
These water sources will be used to provide the operational water. The landowner has water rights for
this use as well as irrigating the existing fields to the west. The water rights can be seen in Appendix
A. The wells and ditch are expected to be unaffected by the continued excavation. The currently
mined azea has had no effect on the water.
8. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will only occur as dictated by demand up to the maximum rates described earlier
in the mine plan. Mining, screening and processing will take place for 18-26 weeks intermittently
throughout the yeaz and products will be sold from this location throughout the yeaz, although less is
occurs in the winter months. The operator will not have night gravel mining operations, althoughminor
truck activity or repairs may occur after hours. Mining, processing and trucking will take place no
more than 12 hours per day, 6 days per week.
9. Road and Traffic Impacts
All road and traffic impacts from the Cugnini Pit aze more throughly addressed in the separate traffic
impact analysis document. The traffic impact from the additional mining of 1,028,000 tons will be
mitigated through the application of 3" of asphalt to the stretch of County Road 305 between the pit
and the intersection of County Road 302, Currently, the County Road 305 is in good condition and
will require minimal work before the application of the new road surface.
10. Noise, Visual and Odor Impacts
Due to the remote location of this operation, its impact will be minimal. To further reduce the impact
posed by noise, visual, or odor sources, a berm will be constructed between the adjacent county road
and the pit. Also these impacts will be furtherreduced by allowing the mining operations to only occur
Cugnini 12/03 13
