remove the 44 million gallons. Assuming a start date of June 15, 1999, pumping and
evaporation would be complete by September 1 I, 1999.
Figure 3-3 presents the time-dependent flow rates for the enhanced evaporation system.
Pumping from the backfill and evaporative spraying will begin on June 15, 1999. The pumping
rate will increase to a maximum of 350 gpm and continue for 88 days. At that time it is
anticipated that the elevation of the water in the backfill will be at 8,580 feet.
3.2 Holding Pond and Spray Area
The design plan for excavation of the holding pond azea and construction of the downstream
berm is based on balanced cut and fill construction. A total of approximately 6,725 cubic yards
of earthwork is required to excavate the holding pond area and construct the berm. The berm is
designed to have a 3:1 upstream slope to allow placement of the HDPE liner and a 2:1
downstream slope. The crest of the berm is 10 feet wide to allow one way traffic of maintenance
vehicles.
• The grading plan for the spray evaporation azea and the diversion channel is based on a balanced
cut and till construction. A total of approximately 1,100 cubic yazds of earthwork aze required to
construct the diversion channel and approximately 5,000 cubic yazds to grade the spray
evaporation area to the configuration shown on Drawing 1.
The trench on the south side of the pond will serve as a liner anchor and utility trench for the
mainline from the pump. The trench slopes and depth aze shown on the Detail Sheet
(Drawing 3) and will generally follow the grade of the evaporation pond. T7te remaining
perimeter trench will serve as a liner anchor only and details of its slopes and depth aze also
shown on the Detail Sheet (Drawing 3).
3.3 Evaporative Spray Stations
The total lined azea shown on Drawing 1 is approximately 11 acres. The holding pond area is
approximately 2 acres and has a design capacity of 2.3 million gallons with a freeboard height of
0.~ feet. T11e remaining 9 acres of liner will be used to collect and divert water droplets back to
• the holding pond. The evaporative sprayers will be placed on concrete slabs that aze 6-feet x 6-
Battle ,Nounrain Resources. Inc. DR.4F!'
