suffer death or crippling loss. The gravel business is a
supplement to the: income of the ranch; thus, we look to the
future use as pasture land. The roads will remain as they
were first used f'or the ranch operation; the gravel operation
only uses them - we saw no need for further roads - thus, we
do not plan to reclaim the roadways.
Any overburden would consist of large unmanageable rocks -
we have some piles of this material - we have tried to "pour"
enough soil over them to encourage growth of grass; however,
the success of revegetating piles of rocks does not encourage
us in this matter. We are reclaiming the area to the Northeast
that was of such concern to Mr. Oehler - a shredder/grinder has
been used to mulch the tree waste from ditch cleaning on the
highway, added to waste straw, etc. This mulch is mixed
with homemade fertilizer and spread onto the area after it has
been aerated then. seed is sowed - a bedding seed is being used
in order to prepare for grass seeding in the fall - probably
the last of September if the bedding is successful.
No additional bonding money is included - the amount you
demanded = $6,000.00. As I explained to the Board, I will
not have any funds until late fall when the cattle are sent
to market. We dial not have any road projects, etc. out of
the pit this year and no additional income from the mining
of gravel/barrow operation. I feel the amount is higher
than necessary considering this is a family operation on
land that is owned by a family member; we are not leasing the
property from someone else - it is land that is a part of our
ranch. It is to our advantage to protect it for our future
use as part of the ranch.
The proof of publication and the proof of notification to
the Soil Conservation are included with this letter.
I have not gent further maps as the ones included with
all the former paperwork provided the information you noted
in your letter. the original application and further appli-
cations, etc.
Thank you.
Ver truly yours,
(Mr .) L. Otto Goemmer
Enclosures
