This
study was pcrformod in a manna so as to be in general compliance with the requirements of C.R.S. 30-2R-I OI
(Senate Bill 35). Following are our findings.
TRACT LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
The tract lies in a portion of north half of the southeast Quarto of Section 5, and also part of the southeast
Quarter of the northeast Quarter of Section 5, Township 3S, Range 2E of the U[e Principal Meridian, Mcsa
' County. Colorado. The tract is approximatcly bounded b}• the Smith Ditch on the north, west and south. The
proposed pit is west of US Nighway 50 and cast of the Bcan Ranch Road. The tract to be mined contains
approximately 20 acres.
' The topograph} of the tract is the top of cast west trending ridge, with the ground sloping vcn• gently down to
the west. more stccph to the north and quirt stcep to the south. The silt has an elevation of approximatcly 5000
' to 5040 feet above sea Iecel, using the U.S.QS. 7-I/2 minute mapping of the Whitewater Colorado quadrangle.
This ridge is between the Kannah Creek to the north and Indian Creek to the south.
The tract has bocn used for minor animal grazing or pasture with active and former gravel pits being located to
' the southeast and cast of this tract. The tract has not been subject to on-sire irrigation and is located above the
Smith Ditch. The sift is drained toward the north into Kannah Crcck, toward the west which splits bchvicert
Kannah Crcck and Indian Crcek and to the south info Indian Crcck. Surface drainage is considered fair to good
t and subsurface drainage is fair [o poor.
GENERAL GEOLOGY
' The gcncml gwlogy of this arcs wnsists of a thick series of cast northeasterly gentle dipping sedimentary beds,
co~crcd with thin Io ~cn thin dcposils of debris flow sediments originating on the slopes of Grand Mcsa to the
' case and terrace dcposils, possibly associated with the Ancicnl Kannah Crcek drainage.
The site is located approximately 24 miles cast northeast of the main axis of the Uncompahgre Uplift and is
' approximatcly 18 milts due cast of the axis of the Montrose Syncline. Some faulting is evidenced in the arcs,
primarily south to southwest of the silt. A search of our records indicates that the closest mapped faults, to
include potentially active faults, arc located approximatcly 8 to 10 miles south and southeast of the site.
1
1
