Km
The potential plant community on this unit is mainly blue grams.
~'" Other grasses that characterize this site in smaller amounts are western
wheatgrass, and needleandthread. The average annual production of air-dry
vegetation ranges from 800 to 1,300 pounds.
Windbreaks and environmental plantings are difficult to establish on
this soil. Additiunal moisture is needed for long term survival. Summer
fallow, supplemental watering during planting and early stages of growth,
contour planting in diversion channels, and continued cultivation for weed
control are needed to insure establishment and survival of seedling. Among
Che trees that are suitable for planting are Rocky Mountain ,juniper,
eastern redcedar, ponderosa pine, Siberian elm, Russian-olive, and
hackberry. Among the shrubs are skunkbush sumac, lilac, Siberian peashrub,
and American plum.
These soils are well suited for urban development. They have only
minor limitations which are easily overcome. High hazard of soil blowing
ie the primary limitation.
This map unit is in capability subclasses IIe, irrigated, and IVs,
nonirrigated. It is in Loamy Plains range site.
